Pes anserine bursitis is a condition that develops when irritation and inflammation affect a small cushioning sac, known as a bursa, located on the inner side of the knee. Bursae play an essential role in reducing friction between tendons, muscles, and bones during movement.
When repeated stress or friction occurs, the bursa can become inflamed, leading to knee pain, tenderness, and discomfort along the inner portion of the knee. This condition is commonly associated with overuse but can also result from underlying biomechanical or structural factors.
