Plantar fasciitis is a common and often painful condition affecting the underside of the foot and is a leading cause of foot pain, particularly in the heel. It is one of the leading causes of heel pain and is sometimes associated with heel spurs. The term plantar fasciitis is used when inflammation is present, while plantar fasciosis refers to a more chronic condition involving tissue degeneration without inflammation.
This condition typically affects one foot, although both feet can be involved in some cases.
