Meralgia paresthetica, also called Bernhardt-Roth syndrome, is a nerve condition causing numbness, tingling, and sometimes hip pain or discomfort on the outer thigh. It is generally not serious but can be uncomfortable.
In most cases, meralgia paresthetica resolves on its own within a few months or with conservative measures, such as wearing looser clothing or reducing pressure on the nerve. Pregnant women typically experience relief after giving birth. Severe or persistent cases may require medications or, rarely, surgery.
